This exhibit show bicycles in different settings around the world. It is remarkable how universal the bicycle is in different countries and cultures. The same basic design is seen in this exhibit in front of Alaskan mountain peaks, French cafes, an Italian opera house, a South African township ghetto and a shop in Bombay. Photographs in this exhibit show bicycles in five different continents.

While bicycle design has common elements around the world, the cultural contexts vary greatly. It is possible to pick out the country from details in the photographs. Notice the shops, cafes, landscape or signage behind the bicycles. In some photos the setting is obvious...in others it is very subtle.
